GLAUCUS

sustainable Fishery – design of an intelligent net

The concept “Glaucus” shows how a sustainable and controlled cultivation of fish stock can be realized by autonomous trawls and overfishing can be avoided. Linked with a monitoring system in the ocean the stock can be observed by mutual data exchange.

The intelligent net is equipped with latest sensor technology and thus fishes selectively. During the fishing process it is determined what fishes may be caught. The special feature of the net is the assorting of the various size ranges by variable mesh sizes. If the level of by-catches is to high or the fishes don’t have the corresponding size, the trapping procedure is stopped and the fishes are released.
